I thought of myself as a book-person rather than a movie-person. However, I changed my tune a few years ago. Now I want to share some of my reasons.
- Movies develop your sense of the beautiful
To have a good eye for composition and colors is essential for an artist in any sphere. I had this insight when I studied at the art school: drawing a scene from a film was an effective exercise to upgrade skills. (still is!)
- Movies bring people together
Since many of my friends now live in different cities, we can’t meet as often as we used to. The solution was found: we watch movies online together. This way we still feel close to each other. Long-distance film sessions are a kind of comforting activity for me, especially because there is always a chat where we can talk about plot, jokes, characters and tiny details while watching.
- Movies are a great tool for learning foreign languages
Movies allow me to dive into English-speaking world for a few hours. It’s a great opportunity to practice listening skills while relishing a fascinating film. Movies in original enrich your language with authentic vocabulary and slang. Moreover, you understand the cultural context better. At first it was a challenge for me to watch movies in English, though I developed a habit and now it is my favourite language practice.
Let´s watch a movie together!
