My favorite movie soundtracks and film scores

Film music is an integral part of a movie. It has the power to fill the scene with emotions or set the mood for the entire movie, and it is a great tool for filmmakers as it can become an anthem of their movie-creature. Now I’d like to share some of my favorite soundtracks. (Feel free to listen to the songs by clicking on the links below!)

I’ll make a man out of you (from “Mulan”)

Performed by Donny Osmont, Harvey Fierstein, Jerry Tondo, Lea Salonga, and Matthew Wilder.

This soundtrack is one of my favorite since I was a kid. I love this movie, and the upbeat music and the uplifting lyrics give me spurt of energy every time I listen to the song.

Adele — Skyfall

Powerful, dramatic, this soundtrack gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Orchestra is the best accompaniment to Adele’s deep voice. This is the best tune for pretending you are the main character of the music video. Needless to say, Adele did a great job capturing the James Bond vibe.

Sufjan Stevens — Mystery of Love

(From “Call Me By Your Name” Soundtrack)

I love soundracks from “Call Me By Your Name” more than the movie itself. Now one of my favorite American singers and songwriters, Sufjan Stevens managed to mix delightful soothing tune and tearing one’s soul lyrics. His angelic voice fits it perfectly. It’s worth listening to.

Oh, will wonders ever cease?
Blessed be the mystery of love

Carmen Twillie, Lebo M. — Circle Of Life

(from “The Lion King”)

The song is well known for its opening line, sung by South African composer Lebo M. It reminds me of the world that I’ve never been to — wild savanna. The drums and wind instruments create special atmosphere. I was surprised by the fact Elton John wrote the music! He sang the alternative version of this song, but still — this version by Lebo M. is classic.

Би-2 — Полковнику никто не пишет (2000)/ No One Writes to the Colonel (from “Brother 2”)

This song represents Balabanov’s Russia in the 2000s. Rock music, sound effects and lyrics epitomize pain and solitude of a man. Even after 20 years, this film is still receiving a lot of praise from people around the world, and the soundrack is considered to be legendary.
