Devil wears Prada
I’ve watched this movie twice. It made a huge impact on me, and i’ve changed my opinion about fashion industry.
Now I’m going to answer the questions.
1)Describe Andy Sachs before she got the job at Runway.

Before Andy got the job at Runway, she didn’t care much about her appearance, she didn’t count calories, ate fast food and pastry, used public transport and didn’t spend too much money on clothes. Andy wasn’t crazy about fashion: her style wasn’t awful, but it was plain, too simple for a modern young woman. Andy had a supportive boyfriend Nate and good friends, they used to go out for a drink together. She was an ordinary graduate who is looking for a job, but she wasn’t devoid of ambition, she longed to become a writer. She was calm and confident. A good girl.
2) What changed when Andy decided to really try and do her job well?
When Andy decided to stop whining and exceed Miranda’s expectations, she started to work on her style. She had a new haircut, her new friend Nigel helps her to develop her own style. Andy learned about brands, trends, designers. She started to come to the office earlier, do the tasks faster, and foresee the requests of her boss. She succeeded at work, but her personal life was almost ruined. Andy could think only about work, she became anxious and lost weight. She couldn’t choose to spend time with her nearest and dearest instead of rushing somewhere because her boss had a job for her, even if it was a day off.
3)Describe Andy’s boss Miranda Priestly in detail + describe one of her outfits.
Miranda Priestly was a dragon woman, ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶p̶ ̶b̶a̶n̶a̶n̶a̶, the editor of the Runway and the most powerful influencer in the fashion world. Everybody was trying to please her, and everybody was afraid of her, because she was able to fire a worker for no reason. One little movement of her face decided the destiny of a designer’s new collection. She was strict, always on the go,( I think — she was selfish and arrogant), handsome and elegant. Miranda had two daughters and she had been married several times, but she was not a wife and not a mom (because Miranda chose work, not family) she was fashion itself. She was the devil herself. On the event Miranda wore splendid black dress with short sleeves that were made of organza, high heels, and a few accessories: rings and long earrings. Her short silver blonde hair was styled.
4)Describe Andy’s immediate supervisor Emily + describe one of her outfits.

Emily was Miranda’s first assistant, a red haired young woman with a sharp tongue, but a kind heart deep inside. She explained Andy what she should do, but in fact, she didn’t help her: Emili only laughed at Andy’s odd outfits. But Emily worked really hard, because it was the job of her dream, the job that other girls could die for. Even when she was hit by a car and broke her leg, she wanted to go to work and to fly to the Fashion Week in Paris with Miranda.
On the interview with Andy Emily was wearing total black outfit with golden details. A large belt with chains and voluminous sleeves, and a rope on her neck added zest to the look. Also she had blue nails. Cool!
5)Describe five of Andy’s many outfits that she sports throughout the film.
- Andy wore a blue sweater with the first layer of white shirt and a diamond pattern skirt.
I don’t know… that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis. It’s actually cerulean.
2) This outfit Andy wore when she decided to do her job well. The outfit consisted of a black jacket, a V-neck T-shirt, dark-brown leather pants, and a big golden necklace.
3) On the event Andy was in a v-neck long black dress, a small purse and one big bright ring. Minimalistic and fancy.
4) This outfit Andy wore outside. It consists of a brown leather jacket, black turtleneck sweater, dark blue jeans, brown bag and a long silver necklace.
5) The las one is my favourite: total white. A white cap, white gloves and a bag, white woolen coat, but blue high heels.
6)What did you learn about the fashion industry in the USA?
I’ve learned that it is stressful and hard work. Few people in the world can decide what you will wear and what you will be ashamed to put on. Fashion is fast and unstable!
7)If someone asked you what the main idea of the film is, what would you say?
The main idea for me is to prioritize correctly what do you want from your work, relationship and life. You won’t be happy with a great career, but without cincere friends and true love. Ruining a career or ruining relationships — for me the answer is obvious, I think Andy made right decision.
8) What did you personally learn from watching the film? What did it make you think about? What conclusions did you make?
I was thinking about people hiding their feelings, like Miranda, to look cool. But she suffered a lot. Maybe being best of the best doesn’t worth that pain…
And also I was thinking about love and how tricky it can be. You may love a person, but you can’t decide what she or he needs.
That’s all. Thanks for your attention!
